Study of cholesterol metabolism in different experimental models
OBJECTIVES
- To become acquainted with the factors regulating cholesterol synthesis,
absorption and transformation and its interrelation with other lipids.
SUMMARY
Substances are studied that interfere with cholesterol synthesis and absorption.
Diosgenin and the alga, Spirulina maxima, are evaluated in this group of substances.
S. maxima also affects the hepatic synthesis of triacylglyceroles and phospholipids.
In cholesterol transformation, steroid production by the gonads in different
stages of development is studied.
