DIPLOMA COURSE ON HEALTH CARE MANAGEMENT IN THE AMERICAS

This diploma course was held from 20 October-19 November in order to apply management tools that strengthen the development of senior personnel in health institutions and allow them to make the type of decisions that will benefit the population under their care.

The lecturers participating in this academic activity came from the following institutions: National autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexican Foundation for Health (FUNSALUD), State Workers Social Security and Services Institute (ISSSTE), Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), Standing Inter-American Committee on Social Security (CIPSS) and CIESS, among others.

The participants from Bolivia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and Panama prepared eight final papers with the following titles: Quality of medical care during first consultations in the Health Secretariat of the state of Puebla; Excess demand in the emergency service of the "Dr. Rafael Angel Calderon Guardia" hospital of Costa Rica; Medical care of the older adult in the Ecuadorean Social Security Institute; Reference to third- and fourth-level health care in the Guatemalan Social Security Institute: present situation and outlook; The search for health care quality at the first health care level in Cuba; Rational prescription of medicines in the Social Security Institute of El Salvador; Prolonged hospital stays in Hospital No. 1 of the Bolivian National Health Fund; and Quality of care of patients over 60 with diabetes mellitus in the Family Medical Unit No. 47 of the Guanajuato (Mexico) IMSS delegation.
